This is our wood pile

In this pic Kevin and Jerry are working on the wood pile. We all spent quite a bit of time scouring the woods around us after we set up our shelters to gather wood for the fire. Since it is important to have a fire going at all times during winter camping to warm up, dry clothing and to make a hot drink, the wood has to be ready. We all worked hard on this and worked up a sweat. This is a major concern when you're on a winter camping trip. You want to avoid sweating. If your clothing gets wet, once you stop working, your body will begin to get very cold you and you could go into hypothermia. We were fine because we had the support of each other to watch out for us and keep the fire going, melt snow for hot water and a place to hang our wet clothing. Also we are all familiar with what type of clothing and how much to wear. It wasn't so dangerous in this situation, but they say "cotton kills" because it holds moisture and turns cold. So remember, no cotton and don't sweat!

CampingSurvival.com. It's not about the END OF THE WORLD - It's not about surviving a hypothetical PLANE CRASH - It's about the SATISFACTION YOU GET knowing you can take care of yourself and/or your family in ANY SITUATION, ANYTIME, ANYWHERE!
