St Johns Wort plant

My Dirt Time I learned about St Johns Wort at Marty's survival school at the first of his wild edible plant classes that I went to. However, I didn’t have it down until this year. I had it in my head after last year's survival school, but wasn’t actively looking for it on my walks and hiking until this year. I figure that’s because there are so many plants to learn that I was not paying attention to the medicinal plants that Marty showed me. I was just concentrating on the wild edibles. St Johns Wort is not a wild edible plant. The Petersons Medicinal Plant Guide says it has emerged as the best known herbal treatment for mild to moderate forms of depression. So St Johns Wort plant can be made into a tea and can be drank for depression. I did learn that in some extreme cases it can cause the skin to be overly sensitive to the sun. If the situation called for it, I’d use it. Again, DO YOUR OWN RESEARCH. Just because I say that I would do it or have done it, doesn’t mean you should. Remember what your parents said. “If little Tommy jumped off a bridge would you too?”.

I did get a couple good pics for St Johns Wort from John, (not St John himself, my buddy John who was also at the plant course) but the one at top I took today outside my warehouse. I actually took the inset picture here to show you the warehouse and the little plant growing up, right out of the pavement. Isn't that amazing? A plant that can be used to treat depression and is heavily marketed in medicine form these days, growing right out of the pavement. It's not about the END OF THE WORLD - It's not about surviving a hypothetical PLANE CRASH - It's about the SATISFACTION YOU GET knowing you can take care of yourself and/or your family in ANY SITUATION, ANYTIME, ANYWHERE!
