Mark and me all geared up

This is just a pic of Mark, me and Cocoa. By the way, I highly recommend a hiking stick when you doing any kind of hike, it's a great preparedness item. It has so many uses. For one thing it makes you more stable because you become a tripod (three points of contact with the ground) and can help prevent twisted ankles that are a real pain and can even become survival situations in some instances. The hiking stick is also a great defensive weapon for animals or even man. I was on a little hike in our backyard with the kids a while back and we startled a turkey (Cocoa didn't even know it was there) and flew right up in front of us and over our heads and then down a ways behind us. Of course as my buddy Mark has turkeys in his back yard. But his next door neighbor thinks he has peacocks in his back yard, maybe it was a peacock. As soon as it came up, I lifted my hiking stick up in front of me and even though we were in no danger, it made me feel better than simply putting my hands in front of myself.

On a hike recently I almost lost my hiking stick and decided that I need to put something bright on it. I got down to dig up some wild leaks to eat and set the stick down on the ground. We were only about 30 feet away when I realized it but it still took a while to find the stick. I think I'll tie a brighter lanyard on it.

CampingSurvival.com. It's not about the END OF THE WORLD - It's not about surviving a hypothetical PLANE CRASH - It's about the SATISFACTION YOU GET knowing you can take care of yourself and/or your family in ANY SITUATION, ANYTIME, ANYWHERE!
