Marks one man tent with a deck

It was Mark, Cocoa and me on this Upstate NY hike. Mark has this one man tent and made himself a little deck with the extra tarp space. Another simple but good idea and a great survival skill to have. When the ground was a little wet and he didn't want to get his clothes soaked and possibly get cold, this made sure he and his gear stayed dry. I actually slept in my new Hennessy hammock. I had heard a lot of good things about these hammocks. It didnít work out too well for me though. I packed light for this trip and rather than bringing a sleeping bag, I brought a bivy sack and a couple survival blankets to sandwich myself between. The things is that I learned that to sleep in a Hammock , you really need to sleep on your back. I am not a back sleeper. In fact, I have kind of trained myself to use that to wake up or stay awake. If I want to stay awake or want to wake up, I turn on my back. Oh well, I can adapt and overcome and would have been fine. However, when you add the noise of a survival blanket (every time you move it sounds like crinkling aluminum foil) when I moved because I was laying on my back, I didnít sleep well. I have slept with survival blankets before, but I was on the ground and didn't move that much and they didn't make as much noise as it did this night.

No biggy, Iíll try it again in warmer weather where I donít need to keep my heat in. It's not about the END OF THE WORLD - It's not about surviving a hypothetical PLANE CRASH - It's about the SATISFACTION YOU GET knowing you can take care of yourself and/or your family in ANY SITUATION, ANYTIME, ANYWHERE!
