Canoe fishing with the kids

Here is a great thing to do. You canít beat fishing with kids while family camping. And itís cheap and easy. I got the canoe from a friend used for 150.00 and the little inflatable raft/boat that we pull behind was about 10.00. In the canoe we have my wife (taking the picture), my daughter, my youngest son and me holding the recent catch. My middle son is in the little boat tied behind us.

This setup worked great. My son loved being in a boat on his own. With the little kids, we didnít go far from shore, especially with the canoe. Youíll notice that the older two kids have very basic life jackets (theyíre good swimmers). I splurged a little bit on my and my littlest sons life vests for a couple reasons. He is only 4 and while he can swim, if the canoe goes over (it will float with the two seats being built-in flotation devices) the youngest will be fine with what heís wearing. I see most adults donít even wear a life jacket and being a good swimmer myself, I donít unless Iím with the kids. If the boat does go over, it will be a heck of a lot easier for me to manage the safety of my wife and kids in the water if I have a life jacket on myself. I bought one that is very comfortable to wear so that I do keep it on. Simple preparedness! Some would say I go overboard, but for the most part people like to stay blinded to danger even the most basic stuff.

The point is that this is a simple and fun family camping adventure. It's not about the END OF THE WORLD - It's not about surviving a hypothetical PLANE CRASH - It's about the SATISFACTION YOU GET knowing you can take care of yourself and/or your family in ANY SITUATION, ANYTIME, ANYWHERE!
