My Dirt Time The Adventures of Tom Sciacca

Hybrid Solar Oven Cooker Demo

This past weekend, one of my newest suppliers came to my house and did a demo on a new item that Iím very excited about. Our new Hybrid Solar Oven is so new, cool and unique because the Hybrid aspect.

I know this site of mine is devoted to Dirt Time and that means going into the woods as I love to do and practicing survival skills, playing with survival gear and having a great time outdoors. This might be a stretch, but while we did this on a Saturday and on the next day I played with my fire bow and a new magnesium fire starter I did get some good dirt time, but playing with a hybrid solar oven is good outdoor time as well.

Whatís so amazing about the Hybrid Solar Oven is that is has an electric backup. Dave, our supplier has been making and playing with solar ovens for over 20 years. He pointed out that many times, you have to give up and go inside the house to cook. With this new Hybrid Solar Oven, itíll cook even without sun. However, with the highly polished and highly reflective mirrors, the double pain glass and the inside of the oven being all black, on a good sunny day, you wonít need the electric backup. However, if the sun goes away and it starts pouring rain, this Hybrid Solar Oven will still work and as we saw, youíll have your full meal cooked in a few hours. Or on a day like we had that was very cold and windy, we still had a fully cooked meal.

Here is what Dave said about our day.

"Yeah, Saturday was an excellent day. The food was taken out of the hybrid solar oven at 240 degrees. We set up and started at 9:30 and served at 12:30 sharp. The air temp was around the low 30's with bright sunshine and no wind. It was an great test for the Tulsi-Hybrid. It just goes to show what a little sun and minimal electric can accomplish. I think there was 10 people at this luncheon, awesome.

In total we cooked up about 6 lbs of food: The chicken cordon bleu weighed about 4 lbs, the carrots and green beans were each from a 1 lb bag.

Note: There was no way on this green earth a solar only oven would have a had that same luncheon menu cooked before 2 or 3 PM.

Thank you for the invitation, it was nice to have met all your staff. Tom and I enjoyed the day."

Some of the people that work with me, my brother and a couple buddies came over and the supplier Dave and his brother put on a great demo. Please check out our pics below.
